Injury on Duty/Needle Stick Injury Policy

​

  • Inform Kumasewe Nursing Services of the injury telephonically within 24(twenty four) hours (TEL 031 837 3017) , and fax/email a completed incident report to Kumasewe Nursing Services, also within 24 hours.( FAX NO.086 665 5309/EMAIL:info@kumasewe.co.za)

  • Injuries reported to authorities at the institution where you are working, but not timeously to Kumasewe Nursing Services, cannot benefit under the Workman's Compensation Act, as Kumasewe Nursing Services is your actual employer and we claim the medical costs through Labour Department.

Hepatitis B Policy

​

  • ​Hepatitis B vaccine, which is a recombinant yeast derived vaccine. will be offered to all staff who come into contact with patients, blood, blood products and tissues contaminated with blood.

  • The practice will manage the immunisation programme and will maintain comprehensive records of all staff immunised.

  • All health care workers undertaking EPPs should be immunised against Hepatitis B. Priority must be given to doctors, nurses, health-care assistants and phlebotomists.

  • Where immunistation has not taken place or is not complete, tests of current infection (HBsAg) should be carried out as soon as practible and before the health care performs EPPs.

  • Health care workers whose Hepatitis B carrier status is unknown should not perform EPPs.

Staff Dress Code

 

Our uniform is white and navy, closed black/navy shoes are preferred. A nurse watch, name tags are also compulsory.

​

1a) The uniform shall be a plain tailored style top and may include respectable full length tailored style                trousers. In the case of women, the skirt shall be at least knee length. In case of men, long/short                    trousers may be worn.

​

 b) The full uniform shall be of a plain color.

​

 c) The accessories shall be:

     i) Plain matching shoes in a matching color

    ii) Full length stockings for females and hose for men wearing short trousers

   iii) A tailored jacket/jersey or coat or cape of a plain color, if worn

​

 2) Shoes must be navy/black low heeled walking shoes and should be of a material that causes as little        noise as possible. Trainers, crocs and sandals are not acceptable.

 

 3) Nursing staff who wish to wear cardigans/sweatshirts: only navy may be worn. They must never be         worn in the immediate clinical area when delivering direct clinical care patients.

 

 4) Nursing staff should be aware of the risks of wearing ponytails if they are caring for     violet/aggressive  patients.

 

 5) The use of hair color is unacceptable.

 

 6) When on duty make up must be kept minimum.
